I think there is something to be said for meeting people face to face, ONCE. Once I meet someone in the flesh once, then I am good. That's why I like project kickoff meetings.

Cut the physical office budget by 50%, and spend half of the savings on a 3-day offsite every 10 weeks. Folks can bring their families if they want, meetings for 3 days, and then either head home or take PTO and use the company rate for the rest of the week in the hotel.
Sell it to management with both the savings and the fact that the (effective, necessary) parasocial bonding happens during off-hours (at the hotel restaurant, at the bar, at the resort, etc).
